Ronald Wayne Conger

Ronald Wayne Conger, 88, of Moberly, Missouri went home to the Lord on December 21, 2023, at home with family by his side.

Ron aka Jim Boy was born on August 20, 1935, in Mendon, Missouri, to Madge (Warren) and Jim Conger. He graduated from Mendon High School and accepted a position as a Railroad Conductor, with Wabash and the Norfolk and Southern where he worked for more than 30 years.

He liked to keep busy, after retirement he worked for a law firm for 10 years, then another 10 years at Omar Bradley Airport, fueling airplanes and taking care of the office.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moberly and enjoyed his time as a Lions Club Member and a Master Mason in the order of Masonry.

He married Barbara Akers on September 22, 1956, in Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe, Missouri, they were married for 67 years.

Ron enjoyed gardening. He planted several gardens throughout his yard in Spring and Fall. His gardens were beautifully maintained. Some years were better than others, but he was always generous to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

He had an adventurous spirit and liked traveling. One special trip, in 1980 while his son Kerry was in the Navy, he flew to Hawaii to meet his ship when it came into Pearl Harbor. Ron was allowed to get on the ship with Kerry and ride all the way back to San Diego, CA on the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier, then fly home.

He loved his family and having big holiday gatherings. He played games of rummy and tic-tac-toe with the grandkids. He would tell them believable tall tales. Tease a grandkid with a nickname of Billy Jack Joe Sam.

Ron was an avid outdoor sportsman, hunting and fishing every season possible. He made several out of state hunting trips to Colorado for Elk and South Dakota for Pheasant and Prairie Dogs. A family trip was taken to Canada for Walleye Fishing. He loved trout fishing at Bennett Springs and passed on this passion to his sons, Kerry and Kurt, which has been passed on to the next generations and many more to come!

For more than 30 years, Ron tied his own flies, reloaded his own ammo for himself and others, getting the bullets just right for target shooting fun. He never knew a stranger; he made friends anywhere he went.

One thing Ron wanted to accomplish before he passed was to get his wife, Barb, moved into a new one level home and he got it done!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Madge Conger; in-laws, Roger and Loraine Akers; son, Kerry Dean Conger; daughter-in-law, Tammy Conger; brother, Donald Conger; brothers-in-law, Ellis Jeffries and Harold Akers; sister-in-law, JoAnn Johnson; nephews, Gary Jeffries and Greg Akers.

Ron is survived by his wife, Barbara Conger of Moberly, MO; son, Kurt (Lisa) Conger of Clifton Hill, MO; daughter, Leslie Koenigsfeld of Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren, Shonelle (Jacob) Best of Clifton Hill, MO, Chiera Conger of Sailbury, MO, Kellie (Bryan) Cashatt of Moberly, MO, and Kallan (Jessie) Jennings of Columbia, MO; six great-grandchildren, Lane (Cori) Best of Wright City, MO, Tristin (Maddie) Best of Moberly, MO, Souleena Best of Clifton Hill, MO, Brayden Cashatt of Moberly, MO, Mollie Jennings of Columbia, MO, and Knox Cashatt of Moberly, MO; two siblings, Sherry (Joe) Bruch of Cameron, MO and Janice Jeffries of Hale, MO; many nieces and nephews.
