Roy Albert Hess completed his life’s journey and went home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2015 at the age of 84.
He was born March 16, 1931, in Huntsville, MO. He was the son of Jeff Lee Hess and Minta Luvina (Crutchfield) Hess.
On February 27, 1957, in Moberly, MO, he married Frances Ann (Lingo) Hess, who passed away just nine months before he did. To that union four children were born; Sarah, Shirley, Roy William and Paul.
Roy served his country in the United States Marine Corp in San Francisco, CA, receiving an honorable discharge.
He attended the White Country Schools then went on to work on the farm. He then worked installing the power lines from route JJ to Bagnell Dam. After serving in the military he worked very hard at his job of moving houses. He did this for 46 years before retiring.
Although he had many hobbies over the years, some of his favorites were gardening, playing cards and being with family and friends.
Roy was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. He was a hardworking man and successful at anything he wanted to do. So many have said, “He’s the strongest man I’ve ever known”.
Roy is survived by his children, Sarah Peterson, Shirley (Alan) Friedly and Roy William Hess all of Huntsville and Paul (Alice) Hess of Cairo; grandchildren, Pam (Chief Mike )Hopper of Huntsville, Patrick (Rachele) Hess of Hannibal; step- grandchildren, Amber Risch of Moberly, AshLee Chapman of Booneville, Jennifer Gillotti of Holden and Michelle Friedly of Concordia; great grandchildren, Bailey Hopper and Logan Hopper of Huntsville and Braxton Hess of Hannibal; step great grandchildren, Kadance Chapman of Booneville, Zeth Gillotti and Frankie Gillotti of Holden, Colby Stein, Malakai, Charles and Anastasia Williams all of Concordia; sisters, Kay (Jim) Hendricks, Patsy (Everett)Myers and Kathy Spinney all of Moberly; nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; son-in-law Neil Peterson; brothers, Jerry Hess, Jimmy Hess, Bobby Hess and Donnie Hess; sisters, Alma Kirkendoll and Vena Webb.
Services celebrating Roy’s life will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly with interment to follow at Hagar Cemetery in Huntsville. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Reverend Terrie Hay will officiate.
