Opal Ruleen Barnes, 90, of Higbee, Missouri, passed away on March 13, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 28, 1928 to Roy E. and Opal E. (Burton) Stephens in Moberly, Missouri. She graduated from Renick High School in 1946 and then attended MACC. Ruleen was a lifelong Democrat, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Moberly, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Higbee Missouri VFW. She was a member of the former 1st Christian Church of Renick, Missouri. In her early years, Ruleen, worked at the Brown Shoe Factory and was a receptionist for Dr. Fray’s Optometry office in Moberly. She also worked at the University of Missouri in Columbia, was a cook for the Higbee Senior Center and the Moberly Correctional Center. In later years she worked as a real estate agent. Ruleen also owned and operated the Corner Bar & Grill in Higbee. Ruleen’s passions in life were dancing, music, fishing, gardening and attending auctions. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ruleen Lucille Frazee, grand-daughter, Margaret Jean Creason Plotner and grandson, Colan Ray Barnes. Survivors include her children: Donna (James) Creason of Centalia, Missouri, Dorothy (Carl) South of Hallsville, Missouri, and Steve (Shari) Barnes of Higbee, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, numerous great and great- great grandchildren. Ruleen will be greatly missed by her family and many friends, especially her close friend, Kim Jones. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Cowboy Bible Church, Rt. B in Higbee, Missouri. Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Moberly, Missouri, under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
