Steven Kent Shearer

May 20, 1953 — March 31, 2022

Steven Kent Shearer, 68 of Moberly, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 31, 2022.  He was born on May 20, 1953 in Moberly to Preston Shearer and Louise West Shearer. 

Steven became disabled at age five due to contracting polio.  He endured 22 surgeries before his 18th birthday.  In 1967, he and sister were baptized the same day through Sweet Springs Baptist Church. 

He was graduate of Westran High School and later attended technical and welding classes in college. 

Steven had a natural gift for music and could play the banjo, guitar and drums by ear and was a member of several different bands.  Steven could run sound and even acted as a DJ on occasion.  He also enjoyed horseback riding and loved to take his niece and nephew along when they were younger. 

Steven was active in his community. He was a member of the original Masonic Lodge at Old Milton, a member of the Coon Creek Shrine Club and a 46-year member and past president of the Eagles. Steven was a generous soul with a big heart.  He loved people and made friends easily.  No one ever had a bad thing to say about him.

Steven is preceded in death by his father, Preston Shearer; his mother and step-father, Louise and Billy Patrick and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by his sister, Jana Wright and Russell of Madison; his niece, Jennifer Wright of Moberly; his nephew, William Wright and Leslie of Cairo; great nieces and nephews, Austin Wright, Conner Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Kylie Williams, Bailey Schafer and Jayce Navarro; beloved life partner, Kimberly Brockman and many friends.

Services celebrating Steven’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, with entombment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Attn:  Development Office, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
