Doctor Theodore J."T.J" Vogelweid, DVM, 99, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Tiger Place, Columbia, Missouri. T.J was born June 28, 1918, to Theodore R. and Vera (Lloyd) Vogelweid in St. Louis, Missouri. T.J served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945. He served as a tank commander during the Battle of the Bulge. T.J had joined the military to be an army veterinarian but was put in the horse cavalry. He was assigned to the 14th Cavalry and was stationed at Camp Funston. During WW II the 14th Cavalry were sent on war maneuvers and they rode 900 miles by horse. As the war progressed, T.J was transferred to armor and was part of the 19th Tank Battalion. This Battalion crossed on the HMS QUEEN MARY to England and was stationed at Tidworth Barracks. T.J received 2 Bronze Services Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Purple Heart. He and Dorothy Danz were married December 27, 1950, in Richmond Heights, Missouri. T.J received his B.S. in Agriculture and D.V.M. Degrees in 1951 from the University of Missouri. He began his Veterinary practice in Moberly in 1952. Dr. Vogelweid was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Northeast Veterinary Medical Association. He served as a delegate to the MVMA Executive Board, member of the Missouri Animal Technician Examining Board, past president of NEVMA and served on various MVMA committees. He was Past president of the Randolph County Health Council and served as the City Veterinarian of the Moberly Health Department. Dr. Vogelweid retired in 2011 after serving 59 years in the Randolph County Community. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, and he loved his bird dogs. He was a huge Missouri football fan and proudly sported his black and gold in his later years while he was the "greeter" at Tiger Place. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vogelweid of 56 years in 2006; brother Bob Vogelweid; and sister, Vera Dolly VonderHaar. Survivors include his sons: Gary Vogelweid and wife Cathy of Auxvasse, Missouri, and David Vogelweid and wife Cindy of Vista, California; daughter, Susie Alfermann and husband Terry of Columbia, Missouri; brother Lloyd Vogelweid of Huntington Beach, California; grandson, Eric J. Vogelweid and wife Emily; and great-granddaughter, Elsie Vogelweid. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly, Missouri. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Moberly, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Washington, Missouri. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorials be made to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans, Central MO Honor Flight, or University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing.
