Thomas Wesley Fuhrman, 61, of Moberly passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2022 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Tom was born on May 4, 1960 in Moberly, MO to Charles Elbert Fuhrman and Juanita (Alexander) Fuhrman. He was a 1978 graduate of Moberly High School. Tom played saxophone and made All State Band. Tom also had the unique experience of playing at Notre Dame and Carnegie Hall as a member of the American Youth Band. Following high school, Tom attended college at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and later the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO where he earned his PHD in Family Marriage Counseling.
Tom worked in private practice in Moberly before relocating to North Carolina where he was employed by the State of North Carolina and then University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Upon returning to Moberly, he worked for MU extension for several years and offered counseling services in surrounding communities. Tom was also an instructor with the Excel Program for several years.
Tom enjoyed traveling, watching movies and spending time on his farm. He also loved to read and collected both Zane Gray and Louis L’Amour books. Tom had an amazing sense of humor, was a gifted story teller and the family historian. He was an all-around great guy who loved his family, especially all his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Juanita Fuhrman; his maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents and his faithful dog, Buddy.
Survivors include his siblings, Mike (Brenda) Fuhrman of Boliver, Dianna (John) Ehrhardt of Moberly and Mark (Lisa) Fuhrman of Moberly; nieces and nephews, Megan (Bob) Gelband, Philip (Rachel) Fuhrman, Jennifer (Garner) McGregor, Heidi (Andy) Sharp, Dane (Christina) Fuhrman and Gretchen (Jake) Allen; great nieces and nephews, Pearl and Oren Fuhrman, Violet Fuhrman, Josiah, Elias and Malakai Gelband, Abishai, Valor and Judah McGregor and Baby Allen arriving in May of 2022; extended family and many good friends.
A funeral service celebrating Tom’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Moberly, MO on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Interment will follow at the Huntsville City Cemetery in Huntsville, MO. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of service. For those attending, we kindly ask that everyone please wear a mask.
