Tracy Robb

d. May 13, 2021

Tracy Vaughn Robb, 92, of Moberly, MO, passed away on May 13, 2021 at Boone Hospital, Columbia, MO. He was born November 5, 1928 at home in Nashville TN, to Tracy Vaughn Robb, Sr. and Lucy Sterry Robb. Most of his ancestors came to America in the 1600s and 1700s as he learned through his love of genealogy. He attended public schools in Nashville and Robertson County Tennessee, graduating from Greenbrier High School in 1946. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and geography from Peabody College in 1952. He then went on to earn a Master of Science in geography from Northwestern University in 1954, with a concentration in cartography. He loved maps and was a map librarian at Northwestern. Tracy was a member of Sigma Xi and was a Mason for over 50 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army at Los Alamos and in the Tennessee National Guard in an armored calvary unit. Tracy worked for E.I. du Pont de Nemours for 40 years, beginning in Nashville, TN before going to graduate school. He then began his formal career with DuPont in Chicago, working also in Wilmington, Delaware, Fairfield, Connecticut and Atlanta, Georgia before landing in Moberly until retirement. Tracy married Betsy Henning on November 13, 1955, at the Swiss Church in New Glarus, Wisconsin. They were a blend of Edelweiss and Old Hickory. They had one child, Elizabeth, who married Jayson Cheever. Tracy enjoyed spending time with his many friends, sharing food, drink, music and laughter, often started by a quip in German. If there was not laughter in his space, then he usually tried to create some. He especially cherished his times with Lynne Taylor and her family, considering them part of his family. Besides Elizabeth and Jayson, Tracy is survived by his sister, Jill Vosseteig; cousins, Patricia Baumann and Robbye Palmer; nieces and nephews; extended family; longtime friends; neighbors and his cat Julia. Tracy was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy; brother-in-law, Jens Vosseteig; Betsy’s sisters and their husbands, Iona and John Schoonenberg and Dorothy and Julian Horgan and Betsy’s brother, Gordon and wife, Virginia Henning. Tracy was baptized in Manskar Creek in Tennessee, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly for many years. He will be buried beside his dear wife in Swiss Cemetery, New Glarus, WI with a graveside service on Friday, May 21 at 11am. A memorial service will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church, corner of Fourth and Rollins, Moberly, MO on Thursday, May 27 at 11am. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Christos Center, 111 N 5th St, Moberly, MO 65270 or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 S 4th St, Moberly, MO 65270.
