Velma F. Halley, age 95, of Moberly, MO, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021. She was born in 1926 in Moberly the daughter of Guy and Katherine Fleming.
Velma married Robert “Bob” Halley in 1944 at the Central Christian Church parsonage in Moberly, officiated by the Reverend C.W. Cornn. Velma is survived by daughter, Kathy Rieser (Ken), son, Jim Halley (Claudia), grandson Marc Holloway (Katie), great grandson, two step-grandsons and one step granddaughter and several step-great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Barbara Henderson (Ray) and Sallie Halley plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Velma was preceded in death by husband Bob, her parents and her sister, Marie Bagby (Tyson).
She professed faith in Jesus Christ at age 12 and joined the Huntsville Methodist Church. She was active in her church and taught children’s Sunday school classes for many years.
In 1965, the family moved to Moberly and transferred their membership to Trinity United Methodist Church. She again taught Sunday school classes. She was active in the women’s UMW organization and as a member of the Tri-Me Sunday school class which she taught for several years.
She was a member of the Moberly Lioness Club for 15 years serving as president and on committees.
After her children were grown, she enrolled and graduated from Moberly Area Junior College and Northeast Missouri State University where she graduated Cum Laude at age 57. She majored in Speech Pathology and taught until her retirement as speech and language therapist for three Randolph County schools.
Velma enjoyed sewing, crafting, computering, and working outside with her flowers and the family vegetable gardens. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her children and other family members.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Epworth Children and Family Services at Epworth.org or to Epworth Development Office, 110 North Elm Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63119.
