Our beloved mother and grandmother, Willemina, “Mena”, deJonge passed away on Saturday February 18, 2023, at the age of 99 in her home at Meadow Ridge in Moberly, Missouri.
Willemina Vos was born on February 8, 1924, in Groningen Holland. She later married Jon deJonge, and together they took the leap of faith to move to America. They came to Missouri from Ellis Island, and eventually made their home in Moberly, Missouri, where they were both devoted members of Zion Lutheran Church.
Mena is survived by her two sons, Byron (Carla) deJonge of Higbee and Bruce (Patricia) deJonge of Moberly; grandchildren, Tony (Sondra) deJonge of Higbee, Allen deJonge of Columbia and Jennifer (Aaron) Lively of O’Fallon, MO and Aaron and Zach Jefferson and Amanda Davies; great grandchildren, Kaila (Matt) Bolles, Craig (Mariah) deJonge, Christopher, Gavin and Della deJonge, and Mackenzie, Turner, Austin, and Taylor Lively; two great-great grandchildren Kinley and Britton Bolles; she is also survived by her younger brother, Henk (Hinke) Vos in Holland.
Mena was preceded in death by her husband, Jon deJonge; her parents; sisters; brothers and many other family members overseas in her homeland of Holland.
Mena was a woman who showed her love to her family and the community through acts of service and offering of food. She spent many years helping to create braille books for the blind, serving on the women’s committee at church and spending countless hours visiting with friends. You could always find her passing time at a puzzle table or outside raking leaves and hear her parting words “Do good your best”.
The family would like to thank the caretakers with Meadow Ridge and Encompass Health Hospice for your care during the times we couldn’t be there.
A visitation will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, in Moberly, MO, on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow.
