William R. Hofmeister Jr., age 74, of Moberly, MO, passed away on January 18, 2024. William was born on October 14, 1949, in St. Louis, MO, to William R. Hofmeister, Sr. and Doris J. (Ziegenmier) Hofmeister.
He graduated from Pattonville High School in 1968 and from the University of MO at Rolla in 1980 with a BSEE and in 1995 with an MSEM. He served in the United States Navy from 1969-1973. William was a member of IEEE and MENSA. Employment included Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Plant, James A. Fitzparick Nuclear Power Plant, Wyle Labs, Nine Mile Unit I, NuTherm Intl., Cooper Nuclear Station, and Thomas Hill Energy Center.
William married Susan A. Dickerson in November of 1971. He later married Mary (Smith) Hofmeister in March of 1988 - present. His hobbies included chess (chess champion), ham radio (class extra), reading, gaming, movies, old TV series, computers, electronics, and building collections of anything and everything that interested him.
Bill could not resist a stray, abandoned animal or one needing rehoming. He loved his children and grandchildren fiercely and always had plenty “words of wisdom” to pass along.
He is preceded in death by his father, William R. Hofmeister, Sr.; stepmother, Joan Hofmeister (Smith); one sister, Jacquelene Brockman, and brothers, Michael Hofmeister, Theodore Hofmeister, Joseph Hofmeister, Stephen Walker, Terry Walker, and Chester “Butch” Neff.
He is survived by his wife Mary A. Hofmeister, Moberly, MO; children, William T. Hofmeister, Cedar Rapids, IA; Johnathan E. Hofmeister, Cedar Rapids, IA; Melissa C. (Taylor) Sebetka, Marion, IA; mother Doris Jean (Chester) Neff, DuQuoin, IA; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings David (Teresa) Hofmeister, Sullivan, MO; Dawn (Gene) Allen, Overland, MO; Kelly Garcia of Des Moines, IL, Brenda Walker, Moscow Mills, MO; Patty Hofmeister; Rick Walker, Golden, IL; David Walker, St. Peters, MO; and Tim Walker, DuQuoin, IL; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024. A funeral service celebrating William’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by military honors and interment at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
