William Carter Skirvin, 90, of Moberly passed away September 22, 2011 at his home in Moberly. He was born August 23, 1921 in Moberly to John Carter and Ruth Neth (Patton) Skirvin. William attended West Park United Methodist Church. He worked as a switchman for the Wabash and Norfolk and Southern Railroads before retiring. William served in the Army where he received the Purple Heart and the CBI award that only a select few received for his service in China, Burma and India. He was the past president of the American Legion and was the past president and coach for the Little League. On December 22, 1946 in St. Joseph he married Elizabeth Jeanette (Rainey) Skirvin and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2002. He is survived by one son Richard C. Skirvin of Moberly and one daughter Deborah and Curt Birge of Moberly; eleven grandchildren Jamieson M. Boehm, Greg Baker, John Carter Skirvin, Victoria Skirvin, Jacqueline R. Skirvin, James W. Skirvin, Briana J. Garza, Sasha D. Trusty, Derek S. Birge, Aaron E. Birge and Travis A. Birge; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Services will be Sunday September 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Million-Taylor Funeral Home in Moberly. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12-2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Moberly Midget League.
