Van Dell Jordan, age 73, reached the clearing at the end of his path on October 17th, passing quietly at home in his sleep.
Van Dell was born on December 8th 1946, the third son of Bill and Wilmoth Jordan. He grew up with his parents and two older brothers on a farm north of Clifton Hill, Missouri. Van Dell graduated from Salisbury High School and attended college in Kansas and Arizona. He moved to Phoenix in the late 60's and roomed with his oldest brother, Milton Jordan. Van Dell met Sue Ann Jenkinson at an ice- skating rink at a valley shopping mall and they were married in the spring of 1972.
Van Dell worked for the fire department and then became a draftsman for the city of Phoenix. After he finished his Master’s Degree in landscape architecture at Arizona State University, he worked for the Phoenix Zoning and Planning Department where he enjoyed helping homeowners with code violations and explaining to big developers why they couldn't do things their way.
The Jordan family were members of First Congregational Church of Christ/UCC in Phoenix from 1980 through 2006. He and his wife moved back to Missouri in February of 2006, after his retirement from the City of Phoenix, where he cared for his wife until she passed in the spring of 2015. He kept busy by volunteering at various places like the Christos food bank, Community Kitchen and Randolph County Historical Society and visiting with his many friends in the community.
Van Dell is survived by his older brother, Boyd Jordan, also of Moberly, and his sons Adran and Kyle Jordan of Moberly and Paris respectively; his daughters- in- law, Samantha and Karri and five grandchildren, Aryah, Halie, Eli, Gwennan and Malcolm.
Van Dell Jordan will be laid to rest with his wife, his parents and his grandparents at Johnson Cemetery
